Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) chief Girish Deodhare told news agency ANI about the project that the development of the new aircraft would be completed by 2027. The government has approved the LCA Mark 2 fighter aircraft development project.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the year 2027 after extensive flight tests and other related works. DRDO will develop this new aircraft with a GE-414 engine which is an upgraded version of GE-404s that will give more power to the existing LCA and 83 LCA Mark 1As which will start inducted into the Indian Air Force in the next few years.
Currently, 30 LCAs are in service with the Indian Air Force and two are being used by HAL to develop the Mark 1As.
